Education

With the various energy initiatives taken by the State of California, Energy Systems believes that energy management must be addressed as early as the elementary school level. ES’s goal is to find ways to develop behavioral changes leading to increased energy efficiency, and transforming how consumers of today and tomorrow view and use energy.   A robust energy program for K-12 schools developed by ES can work as a key step to achieving that goal. These programs can work in conjunction with schools’ Proposition 39 activities.

Behavioral Change in Energy Usage Patterns

Energy Systems designs curriculum that enables K12 students to apply hands-on energy experience at school, basic practices which once ingrained will be carried over into other aspects of their lives. The students learn about  alternative paths of energy and gain insights into cost saving measures. They  also observe in practice the predictable and consistent results of good energy management, achieved from processes that are carefully designed, strictly implemented and monitored on an ongoing basis.

The project is designed to initiate change among students, while the introduction and exposure to ZNE buildings expands their concepts of efficiency. As the energy industry continues to move faster in the direction of energy savings and renewable energy, these insights will ensure the students of today become judicious energy consumers and savers as they grow into adulthood.
